Heathwood Plus

What is Heathwood Plus?

Heathwood Plus is just one more way that we address the needs of the “whole child.”  At Heathwood, we know that significant learning takes place outside of the traditional classroom.  We have intentionally designed this program to support the hidden talents and diverse interests of children who are growing each day in mind, body, and spirit.

A secondary goal of our program is to meet the needs of parents by providing exceptional care before and after the school day.

What can you expect when you enroll your child in a Heathwood Plus program?

You can expect that we will partner with you in developing happy, polite, well-adjusted children.  We care about manners, kindness, and having fun!  We want to inspire life-long learners who never lose the joy of discovery.  The Heathwood Plus program serves you by providing your child:

  • Individual attention from qualified, caring instructors
  • A high degree of supervision
  • A creative, nurturing atmosphere
  • Structured academic support
  • Opportunities for self-expression
  • Organized physical activities
  • Outdoor play and exploration
  • Free time, just to let kids be kids

Early Morning (7:30 AM – 8:00 AM)

Children two years old through 4th grade who arrive on campus before 8:00 AM must report to Early Morning Express. This service is free of charge and is supervised by Heathwood teachers. Students in Early Morning Express have an opportunity to play, read and get ready for their school day.

Afternoon Express (until 6:00 PM)

Afternoon Express begins at the conclusion of the academic day and is open until 6:00 PM. It provides a time for children to relax, play, and receive help with homework.  Each day, we provide a healthy snack for students, as well as outdoor recess and time to enjoy nature.  Many students pair Afternoon Express with an extracurricular program for added enrichment.

Holidays

Child care is available through Afternoon Express on many school holidays, including Conference Days, Faculty Workdays, and Grandparents’ Day with prior registration.  Because the Dining Commons is closed on most school holidays, students bring a lunch from home on these days.  Extra snacks are provided.

Extracurricular Activities

Is your child too young to join the basketball team?  Would you like your child to take piano lessons or karate on campus after school, and save you a trip to the studio?  We have a multitude of extracurricular activities available to students each semester for ages 2 through Grade 8.  Registration is required through Ultra Camp https://www.ultracamp.com/info/upcomingSessions.aspx

Students do not have to be enrolled in Afternoon Express to participate in these activities:
