Heathwood Drama Students Advance to National Competition, Win Multiple Awards at State Festival

Heathwood drama students exceled at the 2017 PDA/SCITS High School Drama Festival, winning the Chapter Select award for their performance of the one-act play “The Dark Road,” which means they were selected to represent South Carolina and compete with their play at the National Thespian Festival in Nebraska this summer.

Heathwood students also won an impressive number of individual and group awards at the festival, including:

--Senior Thespian Scholarship:  Eliza Drake

--Excellent Acting Awards:  Eliza Drake, Genevieve Altman, Christina Altman

--Best Original Music:  Evan Farr

--Superior Play Production:  “The Dark Road”

--Most Professional Play:  “The Dark Road”

Held at Spartanburg’s Dorman High School February 17-19, the Palmetto Dramatic Association & South Carolina International Thespians Society High School Drama Festival brings together drama students from public and private schools all over the state, making competition for top awards very intense.

“Winning Chapter Select is a huge honor, and the cast was thrilled,” said Heathwood drama teacher EG Engle. “I am so proud of our students. They represented themselves and Heathwood with professionalism and pride.”
