Families Helping Families: Upper School Students Adopt 14
This holiday season, the Upper School participated in the Families Helping Families initiative, a community outreach program orchestrated locally by WIS news in Columbia, that aims to help Midlands families by supplying Christmas gifts for children who would not otherwise experience the joy and surprise of a traditional Christmas morning.
To facilitate this great effort, contributors can "adopt" a family from a pool of pre-screened adoptees that is managed by various local charities and agencies. Once a family has been adopted, their sponsors can shop for specific items to be gift wrapped and delivered just in time for the holidays.
Heathwood Hall was honored to be able to sponsor 14 families this year through the Families Helping Families campaign and owes a debt of gratitude to all of those who helped make this possible, particularly the Activities Committee of the Student Council, each of the advisory groups, faculty member Gigi Dawson, and seniors Burgess Foster (Class President) and Robert Hallett (Commissioner of Student Activities).
