Wishing all our Heathwood families a wonderful winter break! May your holidays be merry and bright. A friendly reminder: we have a noon dismissal on Thursday, December 19. We look forward to welcoming you back on January 6th!

Founded in 1951, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School has long been known as Columbia's premier independent school. Our tradition of academic excellence is coupled with a longstanding commitment to experiential learning that has led to the development of many of our most distinctive programs.

While our outcomes are second-to-none—our students compete nationally and achieve at the highest levels—each student’s Heathwood experience is unique, reflective of his or her interests and abilities, challenges and talents, goals and ethos.

Our graduates don’t just master the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in college and beyond; they know themselves, and how to advocate for themselves, in ways that set them apart from most of their peers. Students leave Heathwood prepared to take on our dynamic world and transform it.

Our Campus

Our campus is a serene, environmental oasis nestled on 122 acres of wooded wetlands. We are bordered on the west by the Congaree River, and on the north, east and south by lush farmlands.  Such a unique setting provides a natural “outdoor classroom” and opportunities for exploration, research, and recreation. On any given day, you will see students gardening, canoeing across the pond, studying our live bee colony, gathering ecological samples, climbing through our ropes course, or enjoying the peace and splendor of one of the arboretum trails that surround our campus.

We believe that learning in nature allows children to take safe risks, learn to trust their intuition, and become their best selves.

As a day school, Heathwood serves students from the Midlands, including Columbia, Cayce, Lexington, Irmo, Camden, Sumter, Chapin, and other locations within central South Carolina.

The Heathwood Hall Experience

We don't miss the "lightbulb opportunities" that happen when kids start to understand and explore their own interests. Our faculty and staff notice and pay attention to every child so we can maximize their natural curiosity.

The Heathwood Hall Difference

We develop tenacious, sophisticated thinkers who are prepared for success in school and beyond.

Academics

It’s not about studying for tests—it’s about having a passion for inquiry. We let our students follow their own intellectual interests to spark a love of learning.

Athletics

Heathwood has a competitive athletics program where children learn values like teamwork, sacrifice, sportsmanship, and inclusivity.

Arts

Students have the opportunity to fully explore their own creativity with opportunities in visual arts, performing arts, and creative writing.

Signature Programs

We offer opportunities not found in other high schools, including study abroad, STEM programs, mindfulness training, and independent research projects.
