Our Extended Learning Team is Growing! Please Welcome Chris McDuffie as The Director of Extended Learning

Our Extended Learning team is growing! Heathwood Hall is excited to announce that Chris McDuffie has accepted the role of Director of Extended Learning and will be moving into the role at the conclusion of the 2024/25 academic year.

Chris McDuffie

He will oversee and lead Afternoon Express, The Thought Studio, and Summer Programs but will remain in the Middle School teaching 8th grade Civics through May. Allison Rashley will transition to the role of Associate Director of Extended Learning in May but in the interim will continue to serve as the Director of Extended Learning for the remainder of the academic year (12/4/24 - 5/22/25), and she will take the lead on organizing, planning and executing the 2025 Summer Program.

We would like to express our gratitude to Allison for her accomplishments during her tenure as the Director of Extended Learning, and we are confident that she will continue to add value to our enrichment programs in this new role. Vanessa Dargan and Sarah Stein will continue to serve as Assistant Directors of Extended Learning.

As the Director of Extended Learning, Chris McDuffie will lead and expand Heathwood's extracurricular programs, building on his extensive experience and passion for enriching student experiences outside the classroom.

Chris has been an integral part of the Heathwood community for 12 years, primarily serving as a member of the 8th-grade team, where he taught Civics and coordinated class trips. Prior to joining Heathwood, Chris worked in the public school system for 12 years, gaining valuable experience in both education and program development.

His experience in extended learning programs is equally impressive. In 2018, Chris became the Program Director for Camp Barstow, a Boy Scout camp on Lake Murray. Over four summers, he worked alongside a talented team to redesign the merit badge curriculum, creating a more engaging and effective program. Under his leadership, Camp Barstow saw significant growth in attendance and expanded its program offerings, further demonstrating his ability to innovate and grow educational experiences.

McDuffie shares, “My daughter’s first introduction to Heathwood was through an American Girl Doll camp with Mrs. Barnhill the summer before her first-grade year. She instantly fell in love with the School, and that experience left a lasting impression on our family. I’m thrilled to continue my career helping other families discover and enjoy the incredible extracurricular opportunities at Heathwood, just as my own family has.”

We are excited for Chris to bring his passion, experience, and leadership to the Director of Extended Learning role and look forward to the future growth and success of Heathwood’s extracurricular programs.
